1/4/11: GREEN TEA

Dive into its many health benefits

Green tea, the tiny leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, has received tremendous research attention in the West in recent years.  In Asia, people have been drinking it daily for centuries, but in the US, it is a relatively new beverage.  If it is still new to you, I recommend 2011 be the year of green tea.

I’ll be honest. I was not a green tea-lover the first time I tried it, or the second, nor the third.  But the more I read about all of its health benefits, the more I wanted to like it.  I figured even if just half of the claims are true, this is a very simple and inexpensive way to boost my health. And now, I can say, I have grown to really like the taste too.

Here’s a mere sampling of what green tea can do for you:

  • It can treat and prevent of cancer.

  • It can prevent Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

  • It can raise your metabolism, increase fat oxidation and support weight loss.

  • It can reduce the risk of heart diseases and heart attacks by reducing the risk of trombosis.

  • It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer.

  • It can inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells, reduce the level of cholesterol in blood, and improve the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.

  • It can treat rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular diseases.

  • It can boost immune function.

  • It can prevent tooth decay by killing the bacteria which causes the dental plaque.

So, now it’s time to put the kettle on.  And while your cup of wellness is brewing, you can have a more in depth look at the many health benefits you’re about to encounter on the World’s Healthiest Foods website.
